Ask any high school football player in Wyoming, and there’s just something different and special about playing at night. Not every school gets an opportunity to play night games, and for the first time on Thursday, the Hulett Red Devils will get that chance. With new lights installed at Red Devil Stadium, Hulett hosts its first night game against Meeteetse. The kick-off is at 6 p.m.

HULETT PLAYS ITS FIRST NIGHT FOOTBALL GAME

WyoPreps’ David Settle caught up with Red Devils’ head coach Boz Backen to discuss this new experience. Backen explained how the lights got added to the stadium, what the team and community are feeling about it, and how there’s a special celebration surrounding Hulett High School athletics.

The inaugural class of the Hulett Athletics Hall of Fame features Jerry Ista, Alan Ista, Brian Mills, Dawn Anderson, Marvin Garrett, Gene Griffis, Chyril Dorcas, Ryan Neiman, Jim and Sally Neiman, and Leon Jay. Congratulations to these inductees!

Both teams are 1-1 in the 2025 season. The Red Devils are 1-0 in conference after last week’s 32-25 victory at Riverside. This game will be the conference-opener for Meeteetse.

Fields with Lights are Common in Wyoming

Backen pointed out that while Hulett celebrates lights for the first time at its stadium, this is the 100th year of lights at Midwest’s Oiler Field.

Only 12 of the 65 (18%) high school football stadiums in Wyoming do not have lights, according to wyoming-football.com. There were 13 until this year.
