Jarron Mortimore of Thermopolis is getting a chance to play college football at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City.

Mortimore was named All-State in Class 2A for the 2019 season. Mortimore finished second on the Bobcats’ with 99 defensive points. That was good enough for 37th in the classification. He had 45 tackles, which included seven tackles for loss and two sacks. Mortimore also recovered two fumbles and had a pass breakup. On offense, he caught 10 passes for 148 yards and five touchdowns.

Thermopolis was 5-5 last season and advanced to the Class 2A semifinals.

Mortimore also played basketball and competed in track and field.

On the court, he led Thermopolis and Class 3A with 45 total blocked shots for an average of two per game last season. Mortimore had a 3A best seven blocked shots against Wright. He averaged 7.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.

In track, he qualified for the state meet in the high jump and ran on the Bobcats 4x400 meter relay team.

South Dakota Mines competes in NCAA Division II. The Hardrockers are part of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. They went 3-8 in the 2019 football season.
