Little Snake River Slips Past Meeteetse in Top-3 Matchup [VIDEO]
Thanks to a late defensive stand inside their 10-yard line, Little Snake River beat Meeteetse, 29-23, in Baggs last Saturday.
The top-three match-up saw the two teams trade scores in the first half before a defensive battle broke out in the second half.
Meeteetse’s Dace Bennett had TD runs of 16 and 43 yards and a TD pass in the first half.
Little Snake River got TD runs from Zander Risner and Kannadis Peroulis and a TD pass to Seth Maxson.
It was 23-22, Longhorns, at halftime.
In the second half, both teams made one defensive stop in the third quarter. The Rattlers took the lead on Risner’s one-yard touchdown with 4:56 left in the quarter. It was all defense after that.
Meeteetse had one last chance after they got a fourth-down stop in their territory. The Longhorns drove inside the Little Snake River 20-yard line. Bennett converted on fourth and five with a run to the Rattlers’ 14-yards line for a first down. Faced with fourth down at the Little Snake River 12-yards line with 1:30 left, Bennett completed a pass to Jason Moody, who was stuffed at the Rattlers’ six-yard line.
LSR needed one first down, and Maxson raced over 40 yards that sealed the victory for the Rattlers.
Little Snake River stayed undefeated and improved to 5-0 and 4-0 in conference games. They captured the top seed from the West Conference and home-field advantage for the playoffs.
Meeteetse dropped its second straight game and fell to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
