A pair of seniors in volleyball and football garnered the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Award awards presented by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming.

Laramie senior volleyball setter Maddy Stucky was chosen for the girls’ honor. Cheyenne South senior kicker Keelan Anderson received the boys’ honor.

Stucky helped Laramie stay undefeated in the 2023 prep volleyball season with a 6-0 mark and the Gold Bracket championship at the Casper Invite last weekend. The Lady Plainsmen lost only one set in their six matches.

For the weekend, the senior setter had 121 assists running the offense for Laramie. She added 14 kills, 5.5 blocks, 24 digs, and eight service aces. Laramie was 20-0 after last weekend.

Anderson set a state record with a 61-yard field goal last Friday night in Cheyenne against No. 4 Natrona County. That distance topped the old mark of 57 yards set 41 years ago, in 1982. For good measure, Anderson kicked field goals of 41 and 42 yards earlier in the contest.

While this is a weekly honor, just for good measure, Anderson has the three longest field goals in the state this year. In addition to 61 yards, he has hit from 57 and 53 yards. His 47-yarder would rank fifth. Only Jose Morales of Rawlins at 49 yards prevents Anderson from sweeping the top five.

WyoPreps caught up with both Stucky and Anderson on Tuesday and Wednesday. Stucky spoke about her team’s played last weekend, how she feels they can improve, what it’s like running the show for LHS, and more. Anderson discussed his kicking ability, the record kick, how he nearly got iced by his own coaches, what it means to the program, and more.

The WyoPreps Athlete of the Week nominations are accepted each week from 5 p.m. on Fridays through 9 a.m. on Mondays. Anyone can nominate a student-athlete or team. Winners are announced each Wednesday.
