Photofest: Midwest-Hulett Sets State Mark for Points in Football
High-scoring games in 1A 6-Man football are not unusual but Saturday night's game between Midwest and Hulett set a new state record for combined points in a single game. Midwest won it 94-93 and according to Wyoming-Football.com, the 187-point mark eclipsed the previous record set by Dubois and Ten Sleep with 162 back in 2015. Last year's game between Midwest and Hulett had pinball-type numbers with Hulett winning 79-72
Needless to say, it was an eventful game with Hulett scoring the first 3 touchdowns in the game in the opening quarter. Ben Harrison had a 20-yard touchdown catch and a 15-yard run to the end zone. Sandwiched in between that was a run for a score by Duncan Letellier so the Red Devils led 19-0.
Midwest would storm back on a pair of touchdowns from Quincy Paris. The first was a 39-yard gallop to the house and the 2nd one was an interception return for a touchdown. So just like that, the Oilers were back in business trailing 19-16.
The scoring was endless in the 2nd quarter as Harrison scored his 3rd touchdown of the game on a 60-yard run and Midwest answered with a TD of his own so Midwest was down 26-24. Then Hulett's Hudson Reilly went wild with 3 touchdown grabs, from 35, 37, and 33 yards to put the Red Devils ahead 46-24.
Noah Dickerson put the Oilers back in the contest with 3 touchdown grabs of his own in the 2nd quarter. Between those, Hulett found the end zone twice more with a 15-yard from Kyle Smith and a kick-off return for a TD from Ben Harrison. At the intermission, The Red Devils led 59-44
It was a scoring bonanza in the 3rd quarter starting with a 44 run to the house from Paris, another touchdown catch from Harrison then Mitchell scored again for Midwest which was followed by a 38-yard from Paris. At this juncture, Hulett led 66-64. Still, in the 3rd quarter, the Oilers took the lead on a 28-yard scoring catch from Gage Palmer only to watch Hulett jump in front with a 36-yard catch for a touchdown from Reilly and another score from Harrison. So after 3 quarters, it was 80-72 in favor of the Red Devils.
In the 4th quarter, Reilly wasn't finished as he had a 13-yard touchdown reception to bump the lead to 87-72. Paris rang up two rushing TDs from 40 and 4 yards out to put the Oilers back in front 94-87. Reilly caught his 6th touchdown pass of the game to cut the gap to 94-93 but the 2-point try failed and that's the way it stayed. What a ballgame!
Midwest now has won 4 in a row to sit at 4-1 with a trip to Riverside coming up this week. Hulett is 1-4 and showed a ton of improvement after losing to Burlington 77-0 the previous week. The Red Devils have a home game this week vs. Ten Sleep. Be sure and check out some photos of that exciting Midwest-Hulett game in our gallery below. Enjoy!
