Natrona's Kavin Hoff had a clear goal at the 4A State Track and Field Meet. It was only to win back-to-back State Championships, but set the overall record. Hoff finished 1st but over a foot and needed some fortitude to set the state record on Thursday in Casper.

After making vaults at 14-0 and 14-6, Hoff missed his first two attempts at 15-6. He needed to make his last attempt to have a chance at the state record, which Cody's Quinn Rivera held at 16-00.5 that was set 13 years ago. Hoff came through right on cue on his 3rd attempt at 15-6, then made his 2nd attempt at 16-1 to break the overall state record. He missed 3 times at 16-5, trying to up that overall mark.

Hoff won the 4A Pole Vault in 2024 at 15-6 and took 2nd at State in 2023 at 15-3. He cleared 16-6 at the Simplot Games in Idaho and won the 2025 Indoor state championship at 16-5.5. Needless to say, he enjoyed a fabulous high school career.

We caught up with Hoff to reflect on his record-setting day and the hard work it takes to get there.
