The marquee match-up in 1A 9-Man football over the weekend was #2 Pine Bluffs hosting #3 Saratoga. Both teams entered the game with 5-0 records and each team had something to prove. Pine Bluffs proved that they are a serious state champion contender with a 63-7 victory over Saratoga.

Pine Bluffs had a lightning-fast start in the game with a pair of first-quarter touchdowns. Ryan Mohren got into the end zone from the 3 and quarterback Carsten Freeburg threw a 38-yard touchdown pass to Travis Lerwick.

The Hornets have a solid passing game with a bruising running attack as well. In the 2nd quarter alone, they had 4 rushing touchdowns. Gabe Federer, Jesus Solis, Ryan Mohren, and Carsten Freeburg all found the end zone as the Hornets put the game away leading 42-0 at the halftime intermission.

Freeburg was a factor on defense with a 3rd quarter pick-six and threw another touchdown pass, this time to Shawn Shmidl that covered 24 yards. Solis added a 4th quarter rushing TD from 19 yards out and Saratoga's lone score came in a 1-yard run from Hazen Williams.

Pine Bluffs has a huge road game this week at undefeated Lingle-Fort Laramie. Saratoga is 3-3 and returns home to face Southeast. We have some super-sharp photos from the PB-Saratoga game, courtesy of Ashley Jessen. You can find them in our gallery below. Enjoy!
