The 3A girls' weight throws have been owned by Kay Dexter of Pinedale for the last two years. She is the back-to-back state champion in both the shot-put and the discus and was the Best of the Best in the discus with a toss of 146-1. That was over 25 feet better than the next competitor and has displayed substantial improvement in that event over the course of 3 years.

Dexter also took the top of the podium in the 3A shot-out in 2023 going 42-3.25. She was the only one in the field to throw over 40 feet and once again, she has really improved in this event in her prep career.

In the winter season, Dexter was part of the inaugural group of female wrestlers at the State Tournament in February. She had a very good season taking 2nd place at 235 pounds with an overall record of 25-3.

We had a chance to chat with Dexter at the State Track Meet about her throwing events, starting with the shot-put.
