The Powell boys basketball team finished the year at 12-15 but made a remarkable run through postseason play to the 3A state title game before losing to Lander The Panthers won 2 of 3 in the 3A West Regional proceeded to knock of Torrington in the first round of the state tournament 68-39. Powell shot 53% from the floor in the game and received 15 points from Mason Marchant, 14 from William Preator and 13 from Lengfelder Landon. The 3A semifinal game between Powell and Buffalo was tremendous with 12 ties and 9 lead changes. The Panthers came out on the winning end 66-64 as Marchant had 20 points on 8-15 from the field. Preator chipped in 15. Powell ran into a red hot Lander team in the 3A final and lost 58-40. It was a tough shooting night for the Panthers with Marchant the only player in double figures with 16. For the season, Powell did all this with their leading scorer Carson Heinen playing in just 19 games, averaging 11 points per contest. He and Preator were seniors but there's plenty of returning talent for next season.
