Photofest: Powell Picks Up Win Over Jackson in 3A Football
Powell had played well enough to secure a playoff spot in 3A football and turned in a solid performance on Friday with a 34-14 home win over Jackson. The Panthers are 5-3 overall and will play for the #3 or #4 seed from the West this week vs. Evanston.
Jackson drew first blood in the opening quarter on an 11-yard touchdown connection from Grant Johnson to Waylon Crosby to give the Broncs a 7-0 advantage. That was on 4th down and 5. Powell got with it in the 2nd quarter with a TD pass from Keona Wisniewski to Alex Jordan that went for 16 yards to rake the game at 7. The Panthers assumed the lead when Cody Seifert rambled into the end zone from 25 yards out to make it 14-7.
The Powell defense turned in a much-needed boost in the 3rd quarter as Wisniewski picked up a fumble and zoomed 74 yards for a touchdown giving the Panthers some breathing room at 21-7. Wisniewski had a sterling game for Powell with 2 touchdowns in the 4th quarter. One was a 34-yard pick-six and the other a 1-yard rush for a score. Jackson concluded the scoring with a 70-yard touchdown reception by Liam Logan.
The Broncs are 3-5 on the year and will miss the 3A playoffs. They'll conclude the season at home on Friday taking on Cody. We have some first-class photos of the Powell-Jackson game, courtesy of Greg Wise and you can find them in our gallery below.
