Powell Wins 2nd Straight Legion “A” Baseball Title
The State American Legion "A" Baseball Tournament wrapped up on Wednesday in Powell with the host Pioneers edging their Park County rivals 5-4 to win the State Championship. Each team scored once in the first in a back-and-forth game with Cody assuming a 4-2 lead after 5 innings of play.
Powell tied the game with 2 runs in the 6th inning to even the game at 4, and Trey Stenerson drove in the go-ahead run for the Pioneers in the top of the 8th inning. Brock Johnson came on as the closer for Powell in the bottom of the 8th and struck out the side to give the Pioneers their 2nd consecutive state title.
It was a well-pitched game from both teams as Powell starter Cade Queen went 6 and a third and Cody starter Trey Schroeder pitched 6 effective innings. Powell ended up beating Cody 5 out of 7 this season and won 47 games against 18 losses. Cody finished the season at 38-21-1
