Powell Rebounds With a Road Victory over Worland
Powell has been a playoff qualifier in 3A football for quite some time but for the last 3 years, the Panthers have not advanced out of the quarterfinal round. Powell started the season with a 7-0 loss in week zero to Riverton and was looking to right the ship against Worland on Friday. The Warriors have made the 3A playoffs for 7 years in a row but didn't make it past the round of 8. It's a whole new world for Worland as they will be competing in 2A this season.
The scoring started in the 2nd quarter as Powell quarterback Keona Wisniewski found Evan Whitlock for 62 yards and a touchdown. The extra point was kicked in by Ivy Agee and she added a 27-yard field goal in the 4th quarter. She may in fact be the first female football player in Wyoming to kick a field goal in an 11-man game. She had another extra point in the 4th quarter and narrowly missed a 40-yard field goal attempt.
Powell's last touchdown came from a Wisniewski to Jordan Loera connection that covered 20 yards and the Panther defense did the rest. Powell wins this one 17-0 and will be at home this week to take on Lander. Worland is 0-1 and will meet their close geographic rival Thermopolis on Friday.
