Kemmerer wrestler Roany Proffit became the 23rd boy to win the prestigious Ron Thon wrestling tournament 3 times and he really had to work hard for that 3rd belt on Saturday afternoon in Riverton. In the 126-pound weight division, Proffit squared off to Spencer Wright of Green River in the title match and Wright took a 5-0 lead. Proffit showed a tremendous amount of resolve to reel off the next 7 points to win 7-5. He's 25-4 this season and joins some elite company with a three-peat at this all-class tournament.

Proffit is a junior and already is a two-time 2A state champion as he won the 120-pound crown as a freshman in 2022 with a record of 40-6. He won the 2A 126-pound crown as a sophomore posting an overall mark of 43-6. His brother Donnie won 4 state titles and 2 Ron Thon championships so elite wrestling runs in the family. We had a chance to talk with Roany after that final match and he proved that nothing at the Ron Thon Tournament is easy.
