Sheridan and Cheyenne East had a classic regular season battle in 4A this season with Sheridan winning that one 42-39. The rematch was in Laramie for the State Championship and each team had its shining moments but Sheridan had more of them.

In the first quarter, Sheridan took a 7-0 lead as Colson Coon zoomed into the end zone from the 16 but Cheyenne East answered with a score of their own as Drew Jackson got in from the 2 so it was 7 all after one-quarter of play.

East grabbed the lead in the 2nd quarter as Cam Hayes threw a quick strike to Garet Schlabs that covered 3 yards for the TD so the Thunderbirds led 14-7. Coon kicked a 41-yard field goal for Sheridan in that quarter but the Broncs trailed 14-10 at the halftime break.

Sheridan took the game over in the 2nd half and with Coon recording a 14-yard run for a touchdown and a 44-yard field goal in that 3rd quarter of play to take the lead 20-14. East inched closer in the 4th quarter thanks to a 25-yard field goal from Brendan Bohlman to make it 20-17 but that was as close as the T-Birds would get. In the 4th quarter, Coon had a 1-yard TD run and a 27-yard interception return for a touchdown. Jakob Culver caught a 4th quarter touchdown pass for East but Sheridan repeats as the 4A State Champions with a 34-23 win.

Colson Coon is the reigning Gatorade Player of the Year in Wyoming and accounted for all of Sheridan's 34 points. On offense, he ran the ball a whopping 41 times for 248 yards with 3 touchdowns and also completed a pass. You can't ask for more than that.
