Silva, Chatfield Win Divisions at Nike Cross Regionals Northwest 2022
The Nike Cross Regionals Northwest meet was last Saturday in Boise, ID featured several Wyoming prep runners in the competition.
Several schools ran as teams. They included Cheyenne Central, Cody, Evanston, Green River, Jackson, Kelly Walsh, Mountain View, Riverton, and Star Valley. Other runners competed as unattached individuals.
Wyoming had two champions in Boise.
Cody freshman Kylee Silva won the Girls’ Open Invitational No. 3 division (JV level). She ran the 5K course at 20:41.
Riverton junior Kaden Chatfield won the Boys Open Invitational No. 2 division. His time was 16:01.1.
Taylen Stinson from Cody took second place in the Girls’ Open Invitational No. 1 division. She crossed the tape at 19:09.3. Charlie Hulbert of Cody finished fifth in the Boys Open Invitational No. 2 division. His time was 16:16.
In the Girls Championship Division, 4A runner-up Madison Antonino from Jackson placed 19th at a time of 18:38.6. She was the best finisher from Wyoming in the top girls’ division. 4A state champion Sydney Morrell of Cheyenne Central came in 36th place.
In the Boys Championship Division, 3A state champion Owen Burnett of Kemmerer competed for the Mighty Buffalo squad from Mountain View. He came in 21st place at 15:38.7 and was the top finisher from Wyoming in the highest boys’ division. 4A state champ Habtamu Wetzel of Star Valley was 37th. Competing as an individual, Tristan Enders from NC took 32nd place.
If you merged all the open divisions together, Stinson had the third-best time out of 720 girls that ran the course, and Chatfield had the second-best time out of 1180 boys that raced. This does not include the championship division competitors.
The best team finish was fifth place by the Evanston Red Devils A in the Boys’ Open Invitational No. 5 division and The Mighty Buffalo from Mountain View in the Boys’ Open Invitational No. 2 division.
