After a big senior season that included a team state championship and the most points among Class 4A boys’ soccer players, Jackson Hole High School forward Teddy Opler was named the 2023-24 Gatorade Wyoming Boys Soccer Player of the Year. In its 39th year of honoring the best high school athletes in the nation, The Gatorade Company released this year’s award winner on Friday.

Opler is the fourth winner from Jackson. He joins former standouts Charlie Hoelscher, Will Horstmann, and Sam Hayden.

He led Class 4A with 34 goals and 25 assists for 93 points this spring. A three-time all-state selection, Opler was also a member of the West Region Olympic Development Program team. He graduated school as Jackson’s all-time career-scoring leader with 93 goals. Opler also set single-season records for goals (34) and assists (tied with 25) for the Broncs. He was a two-time team captain and helped Jackson to three state championships in his prep career. Opler led an attack that outscored foes 134-3 in the 2024 season.

Opler had a 3.94 GPA in the classroom. He will play soccer at Colorado College starting this fall. Opler is a member of the Teton Mountaineering Club and has donated his time as a Jackson Hole Youth Soccer coach. He received praise from Jackson head coach Matt Hoelscher for his impact on the program.

“Teddy Opler has been a transformational player for us. As a captain, he’s been a leader on and off the field. On the field, his accolades include many team and individual accomplishments. As a young man, Teddy is well-liked, kind, and always respectful. I look forward to watching him play at the collegiate level and to seeing what he will accomplish well into his future.”

This award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. It distinguishes Opler as Wyoming’s best high school boys’ soccer player. He is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year award to be announced later this month.

Opler joins recent Gatorade Wyoming Boys Soccer Players of the Year Logan Custis of Cheyenne Central (2022-23), Charlie Hoelscher (2021-22) from Jackson, and Worland’s Cole Venable (2020-21), among the state’s list of former award winners.

As part of Gatorade’s commitment to breaking down barriers in sport, every Player of the Year also receives a grant to donate to a social impact partner. To date, the Gatorade Player of the Year program has provided more than $4.9 million in grants to winners across more than 1,900 organizations.

Opler was chosen as the WyoPreps.com Athlete of the Year for Boys Soccer, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming and Wyld Gear on Thursday.
