Big Changes at the Top of the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Soccer Rankings
A new No. 1 ranked team in each division of the new WyoPreps Coaches and Media Soccer Poll was released on Wednesday. Even though there were changes at the top, no new teams entered the rankings. Lander and Jackson took the top spot in the girls’ polls, while Worland and Jackson moved to the top in the boys’ polls. There was one tie, and it was in 3A girls.
WYOMING HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER RANKINGS 5-1-24
Girls Polls
Lander earned six of the 13 first-place votes, and the Tigers climbed one spot to the top of 3A girls’ soccer. Most of the votes were in before Lander fell in a shootout at Green River on Tuesday. Powell jumped three spots from fifth to second. Cody fell into a tie for third with Worland. Douglas dropped down to fifth.
In 4A girls, Jackson’s win over Kelly Walsh last weekend pushed the Broncs to the top position in the poll. They received eight of the 18 first-place votes, as did last week’s No. 1 Campbell County. It was the second-place votes that moved Jackson to the top. The Camels slid down to second. Kelly Walsh fell to third. Laramie and Riverton remained fourth and fifth, respectively.
Boys Polls
Worland retook the No. 1 ranking in 3A boys after a head-to-head win over previously top-ranked Torrington last weekend. However, the margin was only three points in the voting. The Warriors got eight first-place votes compared to the Blazers three, but second-place votes helped Torrington stay close. The rest of the top five was the same. Green River was third, followed by Cody and Lander in fourth and fifth.
Jackson completed the sweep of No. 1 in 4A as the Broncs climbed two spots to the top of the boys’ rankings. Jackson earned ten of the 14 first-place votes after a win at home over previous co-No. 1 Kelly Walsh last week. Cheyenne Central also fell from the tie at No. 1 down to third after a loss at Sheridan. The Broncs stayed fourth but closed within nine points in the voting of the Indians. Thunder Basin kept the fifth spot.
