Star Valley Starts In-State Play With a Big Win at Riverton
The Star Valley Braves have moved up to #2 in our WyoPreps football poll after an impressive 59-19 win over Riverton on Friday afternoon. The Braves cranked it up in the first quarter with Taft McClure throwing 3 touchdown passes. The first 2 went to Wyatt Crogg for 19 yards and 82 yards respectively and the 3rd one went to Chase Stewart so after that barrage, it was 22-0. Riverton got to the end zone in the 1st quarter as Dominick Payne got in from the 7 to cut the gap to 22-6.
Star Valley kept the foot on the gas in the 2nd quarter as McClure threw 2 more TDS passes, finding Jacob Hodges for 13 yards and Stewart for 67. The Braves also received a 2-yard run for a score from Jayden Cook so it was 42-6 at halftime.
Taft McClure threw his 6th touchdown pass of the day in the 3rd quarter, as Stewart caught his 3rd, and later in the 3rd, he threw his 7th TD pass of the game to Luke Linford. McClure threw for over 400 yards in the game and 7 touchdown passes in a single game is a school record. Overall, Star Valley is 3-1 with a road game at Evanston this week.
It's been tough sledding for Riverton this year at 0-4 and they have played some pretty good teams so far this season. They'll be looking for win #1 this week and be on the road this week in Rawlins.
