Star Valley's Chase Merrell, who is an outstanding 3 sport athlete has chosen football as his next athletic endeavor. He will attend Southern Utah in Cedar City after a 2-year mission. Merrell is a 2-time all-state football player for the Braves as a receiver and as a special teams player. This past season, the 6-5 Merrell caught 50 passes for 781 yards and 11 touchdowns. He had a 153-yard receiving game in 2020 as well as a 131-yard game.  As a kicker, he connected on 47 extra points and 3 field goals. Merrell also averaged 11 defensive points per game so he was on the field a lot for a Star Valley squad that won the 3A state championship.

Merrell also competed on the Braves basketball team and averaged 10 points and 4 rebounds per game. He was also a stalwart on the Star Valley soccer team but that season was canceled due to the pandemic.

Southern Utah plays in the Big Sky Conference and went 3-9 in 2019.
