One of the best runners in state history, Star Valley’s Peter Visser, has chosen to further his running career at Weber State University in Utah.

The senior signed his national letter of intent on Tuesday.

Visser is a three-time Gatorade Wyoming Athlete of the Year, twice in cross country and once in track and field. He has earned nine all-state honors between cross country, indoor and outdoor track.

The senior at Star Valley High School hasn’t lost a cross country race in-state since his freshman season in the fall of 2017. He’s won the last three Class 3A boys cross country state championships.

Visser was undefeated this fall until he ran at the Hydrangea Ranch XC Time Trial #4 race outside Tillamook, OR on Nov. 7, where he was runner-up. Visser finished the race in Oregon with a personal-best time of 14:56.8. A few weeks ago, he placed seventh at the XC Town USA Meet of Champions in Terre Haute, IN.

In his cross country career, Visser won 14 races at the prep level and added 11 more top-10 finishes throughout high school.

In his track career, Visser has won 21 more races, including relays, while in a Braves uniform. He swept the 800, 1600, and 3200-meter races at the 2020 Wyoming State Indoor Track Championships last March and ran lead-off on the victories 4x800 meter relay. Visser has one additional individual and two more relay state titles during his track career. Add to that 32 more races, including relays, where Visser finished in the top-5.

Weber State University is in Ogden, UT. The Wildcats compete in the NCAA Division I Big Sky Conference.
