Green River’s Tavia Arnell is the 2023-24 WyoPreps Athlete of the Year for Girls Swimming [VIDEO]
Green River sophomore Tavia Arnell is the first winner of the WyoPreps Athlete of the Year Award for Girls’ Swimming and Diving. It is presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming and in cooperation with Wyld Gear. Arnell led Green River to a state championship and won events at the state swim meet in Gillette.
Arnell was undefeated in the 2023 Wyoming High School girls’ season. She won two individual state championships in the 200 IM and 100 Butterfly races. Arnell set a new 3A state record in the butterfly at 56.39 seconds. She also helped Green River to state titles in the 200-medley and 200-freestyle relays. Arnell was named the 3A Athlete of the Year and 3A co-Athlete of the Meet by the coaches at the 3A state championships last fall. She had the top time in seven of the eight individual swimming events among 3A girls last fall. Arnell was third in the other event. She had the fastest time in the state in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly, and 200 IM. Arnell also beat all 4A competitors and helped Green River win the Gilette Invitational on Oct. 14, 2023.
WyoPreps caught up with Arnell to discuss our first girls’ swimming and diving award. She spoke about her season, how she was undefeated, her achievements at the state swim meet, the team title, relay titles, and more.
