Cheyenne Central distance runner Sydney Morrell will be headed to the Big 12 conference to continue her career at Iowa State. Morrell won the 4A state championship in cross country as a senior with a winning time of 18.29.79. She placed 4th at state cross country as a junior in 4A, 4th as a sophomore, and 15th as a freshman so she has displayed marked improvement in her career.

In track and field, Morell won the 4A state championship in the 3200-meter run at 11.20.22 which was the "best of the best". She placed 2nd in the 800 and the 1600 at the 4A state track meet in 2022 and has a great chance at sweeping the 4A distance races at the 2023 state meet coming up in March. As a sophomore, Morrell placed 3rd in the 800, 5th in the 3200, and 9th in the 1600 at the state championships.

On the indoor track circuit, Morrell is the defending state champion in the 800 and took 2nd in the 1600. She won the 1600 at the season-opening Casper indoor meet in impressive fashion.

On Monday, she was named the Gatorade Cross Country Runner of the Year in Wyoming.
