Tom Hudson Reflects on Laramie’s Latest Championship in Swimming
It might be a new year, but it was another team title for Laramie Lady Plainsmen at the Class 4A Girls Swimming and Diving State Championships last weekend in Gillette.
Laramie was even more dominant in 2019 than a year ago. After winning the crown by 129 points in 2018, LHS won by 140 points this year. The Lady Plainsmen won seven of the 12 events. They also swept all three relays at the state meet for the first time in school history. To top it off, they had the “Athlete of the Meet’ and ‘Athlete of the Year’ for a second straight championship in senior Olivia McPherson.
This was the sixth crown for the Laramie girls under the guidance of head coach Tom Hudson. Hudson spoke with WyoPreps after the latest title about the dominance, the team success, some of their top individuals, and even the staff he has.
Laramie concluded the season with nine all-state swimmers and divers. They will try for a fourth consecutive crown in 2020.
