Torrington Drops Week Zero Football Contest in Gering
Defending 2A football champion Torrington will be entering a different world in 2024 as they jump to 3A. The Blazers after a slow start to the 2023 season won 9 of their last 10 to win the State Championship 28-26 over Big Horn.
This season, Torrington started the campaign with a week-zero game at Gering, Nebraska on Friday. The Blazers got off to a good start beginning with an interception, then Nounour Broddy scored on a 2-yard touchdown run which was set up by a 37-yard reception by Landre Greiman from Ryan Moorehouse.
Gering got right back into the game on the ensuing possession with quarterback Rece Knight scampering 31 yards for a touchdown to even the game at 7. Torrington turned the ball over on their next possession on an interception by Bo Gable. He eventually scored on a 10-yard TD run to give the Bulldogs a 14-7 lead. Still in the first quarter, Torrington had a punt blocked which was returned for a touchdown by Creighton Beals to make it 21-7 Gering.
In the 3rd quarter, Torrington inched closer thanks to a 3-yard touchdown run by Mac Hibben but Gering got a 39-yard run to the house from Gable to bump the lead to 21. Barron Williams concluded the scoring for Gering with a 10-yard TD reception as Torrington fell in their season opener 34-14. The Blazers will have their home opener on Friday vs. Wheatland.
