Tanner Johnson of Douglas Signed for Track
Douglas graduate Tanner Johnson will further his track career after signing with Arizona Christian University for indoor and outdoor track. Johnson was a state champion in the Class 3A 800-meter run and an all-state track performer for the Bearcats. He also ran a leg on two state championship relays for Douglas High School last May. His efforts helped the Bearcats win the Class 3A boys’ team title.
Johnson won the 800 meters at a time of 1:57.86. He was runner-up in the 3A 1600 meters at 4:32.48. Johnson ran on both of DHS’ winning 4x400 and Sprint Medley relay teams. He helped the Bearcats win the team crown for the first time since 2015. They scored 135.5 team points and won by 48 points.
Johnson was a three-time qualifier for the outdoor track state championships at Douglas. He also was on the Bearcats’ indoor track team in 2024 and ran varsity cross country for three years. Johnson also played American Legion Baseball for the Douglas Cats' program.
