Upton senior Sophie Louderback will continue her track and field career in college after committing to Black Hills State University. Louderback was the Class 1A state champion in the long jump in 2023. She jumped a personal best 17-8 to win the title last spring. Louderback also placed second in the 1A triple jump with a PR of 35-1.25. She added two third-place finishes in the 100 and 200 meters.

Sophie is a four-year qualifier for the state track meet in Casper. She was part of Upton’s 1A state championship 4x100 meter relay team as a sophomore in 2022. Louderback also competed in the long jump, triple jump, and 4x400 that year. In 2021, as a freshman, she ran on the Bobcats’ 4x100 meter relay.

This year, Louderback has pre-qualified in four events for next month’s state track championships. She has the best marks in the long jump and triple jump in Class 1A and is among the top five in the 100 meters and 200 meters. Louderback has established a new career-best in the triple jump this year at 35-7.50.

An all-around student-athlete, Louderback was an all-state volleyball and basketball at Upton High School. She scored over 1,000 points in her prep basketball career. She led the Bobcats to the 2023 Class 1A girls’ basketball state championship. They finished runner-up three times in her career. The Bobcats qualified for the 1A volleyball state tournament twice in her career. They placed third in 2023.

Black Hills State University is in Spearfish, SD. The Yellow Jackets compete at the NCAA Division II level and are members of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
