
Gillette’s Landon Scalise to Run Track at Black Hills State
Landon Scalise, from Thunder Basin High School in Gillette, will further his track and field career at the next level after committing to Black Hills State University in Spearfish, SD. Scalise competed in two individual events and on two relays at the 2024 Wyoming High School Outdoor Track State Championships.
Scalise finished eighth in the 100-meter dash. He ran a personal best of 10.61 seconds in the prelims at the state track meet. Landon also ran the 200 meters and set a PR at 22.35 seconds in the prelims. Scalise ran a leg on Thunder Basin’s 4x100 meter relay, which placed seventh, and the Sprint Medley Relay, which took sixth place. Those finishes helped the Bolts to a seventh-place finish in the team standings. At the 4A East Regional Track meet in Cheyenne, Scalise was fifth in the 100 meters and seventh in the 200 meters. He ran a leg on the third-place 4x100 relay and fourth-place SMR. Scalise also competed at the 2023 Wyoming High School State Track Championships.
In his senior season at the Wyoming High School Indoor Track State Championships, Scalise was third in the 55 meters at a personal-best time of 6.65 seconds. He also ran on the runner-up Sprint Medley relay. Scalise capped his 2024 indoor track season by competing at the Adidas Track Nationals in March 2024.

Landon also played football at Thunder Basin High School. He was an all-state and all-conference receiver for the Bolts as a senior in the 2023 season. Scalise caught 33 passes for 609 yards and seven TDs. He had the longest reception in Class 4A of 88 yards against Natrona County. Thunder Basin reached the 4A semifinals and finished at 7-4 in the 2023 season.
Black Hills State University competes at the NCAA Division II level. The Yellow Jackets are in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
