Torrington's football team won the 2A State Championship in 2023 and one of their best players will continue his career at the college level. Ty Bennick has signed with Dickinson State in North Dakota as a defensive lineman and played on both sides of the line of scrimmage in his prep career.

As a defensive end, Bennick was 3rd in 2A in tackles with 74 and had 13 tackles for loss in the 2023 season. He rang up 72 tackles in his junior season and was named All-State in both 2022 and 2023.

Bennick also has a promising career in track and field and will be throwing for the Blue Hawks team. At last week's Gillette Indoor Meet, Bennick finished 2nd in the shot-put at 49-7. He is the defending 3A indoor state champion and reached the top of the podium with a toss of 52-5. He was 14th in the shot in his sophomore indoor season.

In the State Outdoor Track Meet in 2023, Bennick took 2nd in the 3A shot-put going 49-4. He placed 5th in the 3A discus throw at 134-11. Back in 2021, Bennick was 9th in the 3A shot and 7th in the discus at the State Meet.

Dickinson State is an NAIA institution that competes in the North Star Conference.
