Wheatland senior setter Camryn Mickelsen has joined the 1000 assist club in her high school volleyball career. She accomplished the feat recently and celebrated with her teammates. Mickelsen has helped the Bulldogs to a 20-6 record so far in the 2024 season. They are 3-0 in their conference quadrant. Wheatland is ranked fourth in Class 3A of the latest WyoPreps Coaches and Media Volleyball Poll.

Mickelsen has 492 assists during her senior season. Before last week’s matches, she was fifth in the state for the total number of assists in 2024.

Wheatland coach Sally Nichols shared her thoughts about Camryn with WyoPreps.

“She is a remarkable person. She is a great leader and will give every ounce of effort to her team. In practice, I told Cam that she is an All-Conference setter but that I wanted to put her in a different role for the week to see if we could beat Douglas. Her response was, ‘Coach, all I want to do is win, whatever it takes. Winning is more important than All-Conference to me.’ All I could do was smile and think to myself, wow that is impressive. If only she was 6’1” instead of 5’6”. However, her heart and will to win make up for the 7 inches.”

Mickelsen has helped the Bulldogs to three 20-plus win seasons. They were 28-9 in 2022 and placed third at the state championships. Last year, Wheatland finished 24-12-1 and qualified for the state tournament. Mickelsen had 576 assists running two systems, a 5-1 and a 6-2, during the 2023 season.

Mickelsen also plays basketball and is an all-state softball player for the Bulldogs.

Congrats to Camryn on reaching the career achievement of 1000 assists and counting!

Thank you to Coach Nichols for her help with this story.

If you have a student-athlete who has reached a milestone, please email the info to david@wyopreps.com. We honor passing 1,000, 1,500, 2,000, and beyond. It can be for digs, kills, and assists in volleyball, but we also highlight milestones in other sports.
