All four defending champs begin the season at No. 1 in the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Preseason Volleyball Poll. Despite some teams shifting classes, the powers that be earn the favorite mantle. That is Cokeville in 1A, Big Horn in 2A, Mountain View in 3A, and Laramie in 4A. The season starts this weekend.

WYOMING HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL PRESEASON RANKINGS 2024

Cokeville tops the 1A division with six first-place votes. Four other teams got at least one first-place vote. Last year’s runner-up, Little Snake River, checks in at No. 2. The Rattlers garnered three votes for the top position. Upton earned one and sits third. Southeast received two first-place votes and is fourth. A newcomer to Class 1A this season, Lingle-Ft. Laramie is fifth in the preseason poll. Twelve of the 23 teams in the class got at least one vote.

In 2A, the Big Horns Rams received all but two first-place votes and topped the rankings. They have won two of the last three titles in this division. Tongue River edges out Pine Bluffs for second. The margin was three points in the voting. Greybull follows in fourth, and Wright is No. 5. The other votes for the top spot went to Pine Bluffs and Thermopolis, who dropped from 3A to 2A.\

Even though the two-time defending champion Buffalos of Mountain View had fewer first-place votes, they topped the 3A preseason poll. More second-place votes put them in the top position. The Buffalos have won three of the last four titles in this classification. Back in 3A, the Cody Fillies are second and garnered nine first-place votes versus the four for Mountain View. Douglas is third and three points ahead of Lyman. Last year’s runner-up, Powell, grabs the fifth spot.

The Plainsmen sit atop the 4A division. Laramie is coming off their third championship in the last four years in 2023. They received 12 of the 14 first-place votes. The other two went to Kelly Walsh, who is second. Thunder Basin takes the third position ahead of cross-town rival Campbell County, who claims the No. 4 spot. Star Valley rounds out the top five in fifth.
