Photofest: Worland Lands 2A Football Playoff Spot
Worland competed in 2A football for the first time this season and the Warriors found their way into the post-season tournament with a 35-6 home win over Kemmerer on Friday to get to 4-4 on the year. Equally important is that Worland defeated Thermopolis way back in September to win the tiebreaker for the 4th and final playoff spot from the West. This program made 7 straight playoff appearances in 3A and is looking for their first playoff win since 2009.
Neither team scored in the first quarter of Friday's game but Worland exploded in the 2nd quarter. Gunnar Mascaro zoomed into the end zone from 5 yards out to give the Warriors the lead at 7-0. Kemmerer came right back as quarterback Kyle Fox found Austin Ruvalcaba for 46 yards and a touchdown to narrow the Worland lead to 7-6.
Angel Ruelas tacked on a TD for Worland later in the 2nd quarter on a 4-yard run and that was followed by an 18-yard scoring reception by Brody Thiel from Mason Decker so the Warriors led 21-6 at the halftime intermission.
Worland put the game away in the 4th quarter as Ruelas had another 4-yard run to the end zone and Decker connected with Thiel again, this time for 30 yards and a touchdown. Worland is the 4th seed from the West in 2A and will be on the road to take on a powerful Big Horn team on Friday in the first round of the playoffs. Kemmerer finished the season with a record of 3-5.
