It’s that week, the one time when most teams in the state compete at one event. Week 7 of the Wyoming High School wrestling schedule features the annual Ron Thon Memorial Wrestling Tournament in Riverton. It’s considered a default, best-of-the-best wrestling tournament because all the wrestlers compete together instead of being separated by class, like at the state championships. The field had 38 girls’ and 39 boys’ teams attending.

Tuesday and Thursday feature several duals on the mat. Seven schools are competing in wrestling in Belle Fourche, South Dakota; a couple are from Mitchell, Nebraska, and the Cheyenne East boys compete in Garden City, Kansas. All schedules are subject to change.

Star Valley won its fourth straight girls' team title with 169 points. The Lady Braves had two champions in Remington Aullman at 135 and Cara Andrews at 145. Kaylea Mortensen of Pinedale became the first girl to become a 4-time Ron Thon Champ! Natrona County took second, Pinedale was third, Evanston placed fourth, and Green River finished fifth. Kemmerer also had two champions with Riley Meyer at 100 and Kaylie Julander at 140.

Belle Fourche Girls Invitational in Belle Fourche, SD = Hulett, Newcastle, Sundance, Upton, Wright.

Newcastle took 7th in the team standings. Upton was 14th, Hulett 15th, Sundance 17th, and Wright 19th. The top placer from Wyoming was Emma Ista of Hulett, who was third at 155.

Mitchell Girls Invite in Mitchell, NE = Burns/Pine Bluffs, Lingle-Ft. Laramie/Southeast, Lusk.

Lingle-Ft. Laramie/Southeast took 5th. LFL/SE's Trinity Martin won the title at 155.  Ariana Posten from LFL/SE was runner-up at 105. Burns/Pine Bluffs took 7th as a team. Nichole Sumare from Burns/Pine Bluffs took 2nd at 145. Lusk was 12th.

Cody leads the team standings after the 1st day. Green River is second, Natrona County is third, Thunder Basin is fourth, and Star Valley is fifth. Cody has 8 in the semis. Thunder Basin has 7 in the semis, Natrona County and Pinedale have 5 each, and Kelly Walsh and Green River have 4 apiece.

Belle Fourche Invitational in Belle Fourche, SD = Hulett, Newcastle, Sundance, Upton, Wright.

Sundance is 11th, Upton is 12th, Wright is 13th, Hulett is 14th, and Newcastle is 18th in the team standings after Day 1.

Mitchell Boys Invite in Mitchell, NE = Burns/Pine Bluffs, Lingle-Ft. Laramie/Southeast, Lusk, Cheyenne Central JV, Torrington JV.

Keen Coffman of Lusk won the title at 165. Burns/Pine Bluffs took 6th. Rutley Hansen from B/PB was 2nd at 155. The Central JV and Lingle-Ft. Laramie/Southeast were part of a 3-way tie for 10th. Lusk was 13th, and Torrington's JV was 14th. Aaron Gonzales-Alvarado from the Central JV was 2nd at 165.

Rocky Welton Invitational in Garden City, KS = Cheyenne East.

East is in 5th after Day 1. Kozad Porter at 138 is in the title match.

Thunder Basin took second with 181 points. Kelly Walsh followed in third, and Green River and Natrona County took fourth and fifth, respectively. KW, GR, and Sheridan also had 2 individual champions.

Belle Fourche Invitational in Belle Fourche, SD = Hulett, Lusk, Newcastle, Sundance, Upton, Wright.

Wright took 10th, Upton was 11th, Sundance came in 13th, Hulett was 15th, and Newcastle took 18th. Upton had the best finishes for wrestlers from Wyoming with two runner-ups, Landon Norman (132) and Trey Schneider (138).

Rocky Welton Invitational in Garden City, KS = Cheyenne East.

Cheyenne East placed 7th as a team with 126.5 points. Kozad Porter won the 138-pound bracket.
