Trey Smith from Cody Signs to Wrestle D-I at Binghamton
Cody senior Trey Smith has committed to wrestle at the collegiate level after sending his National Letter of Intent to Binghamton University in New York. Smith is a two-state champ and four-year letter-winner for the Broncs. He helped Cody take second in Class 3A during the 2024 state championships last February.
Smith won his first crown at 113 pounds as a freshman in 2022. An injury interrupted his sophomore season in 2023. Last year, Smith won the 3A title at 126 pounds. After two wins by fall in his first two matches, Trey defeated Blain Johnson of Douglas by a major decision, 11-2. He captured the championship with a 3-1 sudden victory against Wylee Willson of Pinedale. Smith finished last season at 33-3. He will go for his third crown in the 2024-25 season.
His career record at the prep level in Wyoming is 69-9.
Smith is also a two-time all-state football player at Cody High School. He has helped the Broncs to a 19-4 record and a pair of 3A runner-up finishes over the last two football seasons.
Binghamton University is in Vestal, NY. The Bearcats wrestle at the NCAA Division I level. They are members of the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA).
