In one of the closer team races in the 2019 State Track Meet, Douglas narrowly prevailed over Powell to win their first state championship since 2005. In Saturday's track events, Kait Wassum of Worland was sensational with wins in the 100 meter dash and the 200. The junior bested the speedy Madison Chance of Lander in both events with a winning time of 12.98 in the 100 and 26.99 in the 200. Douglas sophomore Kamdynn Townsend made it to the top of the podium in the 400 in 1.00.39. Lander's Madison Chance made it to the podium as well as the sophomore won the 100 hurdles in 16.02. The 300 meter hurdles winner was Powell's Sabrina Shoopoman with a winning time of 47.06 In the distances races, Rawlins superstar Sydney Thorvaldson repeated as the state champion in all 3 of the distance races. The sophomore is in a league of her own in those events and won the 1600 on Saturday with a time of 5.00.52 which broke her own 3A record.
