Thanks to the latest coaches/media rankings, there are 3 #1 vs. #2 matchups, heading into the halfway point of the season.

Of the 3 #1 vs. #2 matchups, the only one that features #1 on the road is in 4A Boys. Sheridan jumps over Gillette for the top spot, after the Camels had to settle for a tie in one of their games last week. Both teams battle Friday in Campbell County. Although Laramie delivered a massive 9-1 beat-down of Cheyenne Central back on Monday, most of the votes had already been cast before then. The Indians hold at #3 this week and Laramie is up to #4, but expect the Plainsmen to move ahead next week. Kelly Walsh and Green River tie for the #5 ranking, and battle each other this weekend at GR.

#1 vs. #2 took place last week at the Southwest Invite in Green River...and it will happened again this weekend, with no neutral turf. #2 Worland doesn't have to wait long for their rematch against #1 Jackson. It's the home opener for the Broncs, and this should be a better game compared to last time. #3 Lander might be wondering why they didn't get any love from the voters. It's probably because they didn't play either Jackson or Worland last weekend, so in the meantime, the Tigers will stay where they are. The team that made the biggest impression last week was Torrington. The TrailBlazers finished as runner-ups last weekend, and got into a tie game vs. #1 Jackson. Torrington is in the rankings at #4, and Buffalo is one vote behind them at #5.

Regional Rankings: In the latest rankings released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, no Wyoming teams were ranked nationally, but Jackson was ranked 10th in Region 3. The region consists of teams from Wyoming, Utah, Nebraska and Iowa.

4A Girls does not feature a #1 vs. #2 game this week, but the matchups are almost just as good. #1 Laramie retains the top spot. Next Tuesday's game at home vs. Kelly Walsh is their home finale, and the Lady Plainsmen still have to play every conference opponent on the road. #2 Gillette and #3 Sheridan battle each other in Camel country this week. Not is it a big game in terms of rivalry, but it's important in the standings, because Laramie visits both teams next weekend. Cheyenne Central moves up 1 spot to #5, while 3-time defending champ Cheyenne East has hit a bit of a road bump as of late, and has dropped to #5.

The 3A Girls is like the 3A boys in the sense that Worland visits Jackson this weekend in a #1 vs. #2 matchup. Jackson takes the top spot back from the Lady Warriors as a result of last week's Pinnacle Cup Tournament. Both teams did not hook up during the tournament, making this weekend's matchup all the more interesting. Buffalo, Star Valley and Cody keep their #3, #4 and #5 spots in the latest rankings.

Regional Rankings: In the latest rankings released by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, no Wyoming teams were ranked nationally, but Laramie was ranked 9th in Region 5. The region consists of teams from Wyoming, Colorado, California and Alaska.
