Looking at the new boys basketball rankings, courtesy of the coaches/media, it's safe to say that the love has been spread all over the place.

We don't disagree with how the rankings turned out in 4A, but with all the parity that's been going on this season, we've given up on trying to figure out the logic, of why some voters voted the way they did. For the first time this season, Evanston is on top. The Red Devils have already assured themselves a spot in the state tournament, because they can do no worse than 2nd in the West, but they can secure the #1 seed for the West Regional Tournament, with a win Friday at Kelly Walsh. #2 Sheridan leads the East and is on the road this weekend vs. unranked Cheyenne South and Laramie. #3 Cheyenne East and #5 Cheyenne Central meet up again on Thursday. Campbell County is down to #4 after being swept at home last weekend by both the Thunderbirds and Indians.

Defending champ Riverton is back on top of the 3A rankings. Former #1 Buffalo took a tumble last week and drops to #2 as a result. The Wolverines are hoping to secure the Northwest on Friday, when they host #3 Cody. Rawlins reclaims the #4 ranking, while Newcastle slips to #5. The Outlaws host an unranked Torrington team that beat the Dogies last weekend, but didn't get back into the top 5, because of their loss to Douglas.

Things have settled down in Class 2A, heading into the final week of the regular season, but a few big games remain. #1 Wind River and #4 Wyoming Indian meet for the second time on Friday in Pavillion. Elsewhere #2 Pine Bluffs, #3 Rocky Mountain and #5 Lovell conclude their conference business this weekend, in preparation for next week's regional tournaments.

1A has a little unfinished business as well. #1 Burlington can secure the northwest #1 seed, with a win Friday at home vs. #3 St. Stephens. #2 Farson-Eden has already won the southwest, and has 2 games this week to tune up for the regional tournament. #4 Encampment only has 1 game to prepare. There is a tie at #5, and that should be settled this weekend. Kaycee beat Saratoga in OT last weekend in the Panthers' Den...now the teams rematch Friday in Buckaroo country.

Disclaimer: The rankings have no official say on post-season positioning, and are only to be used as a measuring stick on the regular season. Please don't read too much into the rankings.
