After getting experience with a race last week, it’s time to see who starts to turn it up in the second race of the season.

Week 2 of the cross country season has Buffalo, Cheyenne, Douglas, and Lander hosting the big in-state meets.

There are several teams that are headed to cross country races out of state. The two biggest contingents are going to either Spearfish, SD, or Soda Springs, ID.

Thursday, Sept. 2:

Lander XC Invitational at Lander G.C. – Fort Washakie, Green River, Lander, Riverton, Saratoga, St. Stephens, Wind River, Wyoming Indian

Ameya Eddy of Lander and Saratoga's Grant Bartlett won the Lander Invitational on Thursday. The Lander girls and boys swept the team crowns.

Friday, Sept. 3:

Buffalo XC Invite at Buffalo HS – Big Horn, Buffalo, Cody, Lovell, Powell, Rawlins, Tongue River, Worland

Ryann Smith from Rawlins and David Juergens from Cody won the individual titles. The Cody girls and Buffalo boys won the team crowns.

Douglas River Run XC Invitational at Douglas MS – Douglas, Glenrock, Wheatland, Wright

Lucie Wright and Cameryn Spence from Douglas won on their home course.

Wyoming Invitational at Little America G.C. in Cheyenne – Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East, Cheyenne South, Kelly Walsh, Laramie, Natrona County; Out-of-State teams: Broomfield (CO), Frontier Academy (Greeley, CO), Liberty Common (Ft. Collins, CO), Lyons (CO), Mountain View (Loveland, CO), Niwot (CO), Platte Valley (Kersey, CO), Poudre (Ft. Collins, CO), Roosevelt (Johnstown, CO), Windsor (CO).

The Cheyenne Central girls were second, and Sydney Morrell took seventh place.

The Cheyenne Central boys won the team title. Jacob Frentheway was the highest finisher in third place in the boys' division.

Gering Invite at 5 Rocks Amphitheater in Gering, NE – Burns/Pine Bluffs, Lingle-Ft. Laramie, Torrington - No results posted

Spearfish HS XC Meet at Jorgensen Park in Spearfish, SD – Campbell County, Hulett, Moorcroft, Newcastle, Sheridan, Sundance, Thunder Basin, Tongue River

Sheridan's Abby Newton placed second and helped the Broncs win the girls' team crown.

Austin Akers of Sheridan placed second and led the Broncs to the team crown, as well.

Saturday, Sept. 4:

Out-of-State Events:

Cardinal Classic at Kelly Park Nordic Ski Trails in Soda Springs, ID – Evanston, Lyman, Mountain View, Rock Springs, Star Valley

The top Wyoming girl was Lyman freshman Karly Sabey, who placed 11th. Star Valley was 13th and the top finishing girls' team.

Mountain View junior Owen Burnett took 24th and was the top Wyoming finisher. The best finish from a Wyoming team was Mountain View in 11th.

2021 Timpanogos XC Invitational at Lake Side Park in Orem, UT – Jackson

Jackson's Mason Wheeler placed 15th in the Boys' Elite race. Jackson did not post a team score in any division.

Jackson's Madison Antonio finished as the runner-up in the Frosh Girls' division.
