Star Valley’s Jase Burton Signs with BYU for Distance Running
Star Valley's Jase Burton has been stellar in his senior season of distance running, dominating the competition in both cross country and indoor track. He will continue his athletic career at BYU in the fall and can add to his accolades in the Outdoor Track season.
Burton was named the Gatorade Cross Country Runner of the Year in 2024 as he won the 4A State Championship in Cheyenne with a time of 15.46.6. He also placed 17th at the NikeCross National Meet and is a 3-time All-State performer in cross country. Burton placed 2nd as a junior in the 4A State Championships in 15.58.6 and took 7th as a sophomore in 16.33.96.
Burton set not one but two overall records at the State Indoor Meet in Gillette back in March in the 1600-meter run and the 3200-meter run. He ran 4.12.01 in the 1600 and 9.04.64 in the 3200, and those times speak for themselves. At the 2024 State Outdoor Meet in Casper, Burton was 2nd in the 4A 3200 and 5th in the 1600.
BYU traditionally has a strong distance running program and competes in the Big 12 Conference.
