We’re in the final week of the high school football regular season.

Some pieces to the playoff puzzle have been determined, while others are still up in the air.

I’m taking a crack at this for the first time on a mass scale. I’ve tried to double and triple-check, but I’ll be the first to admit, I can make mistakes and typos. After being on the road for Friday and Saturday, and getting distracted by the Bills-Chiefs on Sunday, this is the research.

According to the WHSAA Handbook and Football Rule 7.7.30, tiebreakers start with the result of head-to-head games. Then, it goes to the result of games against the highest-ranking non-tied team in the conference standings. You continue through that until the tie is broken. If a tie still exists, it goes to a modified points system, where the most you can get for a victory is +12, and the most for a loss is -12. An example would be if Team A defeated Team B, 28-0, Team A would be +12, while Team B would be -12. If the score was 10-7, Team A would be +3 and Team B would be -3. Some of these potential three and four-way tiebreakers are factored in below.

Here’s what I believe it looks like.
