Lander’s Adelyn Anderson Owns Throwing Events at State Track
Far and away, the top girls thrower in the shot put and discus in Wyoming High School Track and Field this season has been Lander's Adelyn Anderson. Her distances have greatly outdistanced the competition, putting those skills on display at the 3A State Track Meet over the weekend in Casper.
In the 3A shot put, Anderson unleashed a toss of 49-7.75 on her 2nd attempt that broke the overall state record, previously held by Natrona's Baillie Gibson. She ended up winning the 3A shot by over 9 feet. Then in the discus, Anderson broke the 3A record at 154-9 and won that event by 26 feet.
She was the defending outdoor 3A state champion in the shot put in 2024 and placed 2nd at state on the discus a year ago. As a freshman in 2023, she took 2nd at the 3A state meet in both throwing events.
Anderson also set the class record in the shot put on the Indoor circuit at 40.00.50, so her accomplishments have been remarkable with her senior season yet to come. We caught up with her at the Harry Geldien Stadium in Casper, and she certainly had high aspirations, especially in the discus.
