Wheatland’s Desirae Iacovetto Signs with UW for Track & Field
Wheatland super-athlete Desirae Iacovetto won't be going very far to continue her career as she will be going to the University of Wyoming for track & field. She would be an ideal candidate for the heptathlon, which features the 100 and 200-meter dashes, the high jump, long jump, shot-put, javelin, and the 800-meter run.
On the indoor track circuit, Iacovetto won the 3A State Championship in the 55-meter dash in 7.23, which broke a 3A state record. She placed 2nd in the 200, 6th in the high jump, and 7th in the long jump. In her junior year at the State Indoor Championships, Iacovetto was 2nd in the high jump in 3A at 5-2, 3rd in the 55 meters, and 4th in the 200. As a sophomore, she took 3rd at the Indoor State Meet in the 55 meters and 5th in the 200 and high jump, plus her 4x200 meter relay team captured 5th. She also placed 4th in the 55-meter run in the 2022 State Indoor Championships.
At the 2024 State Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Iacovetto was 2nd in the 3A 100 meters with a time of 12.38 and 2nd in the 200 at 24.90. Her 1600 sprint medley relay team for Wheatland took the top of the podium, and she placed 10th in the high jump. In 2023 at the State Outdoor Meet, Iacovetto was the 3A State Champion in the 100 meters with a clocking of 12.43, 2nd in the 200 in 26.04, 7th in the high jump, and her 4x100 relay team placed 5th. She was solid as a freshman at the State Track Meet with a 2nd place finish in the 3A 100 meters and 3rd in the 200.
Iacovetto also was named All-State in 3A Volleyball this past season.
