Gavin Stafford and his lightning speed propelled Big Horn to the 2A Boys Track and Field State Championship over the weekend. His heroics started on Thursday when he broke the 2A record on the long jump not once but twice. He finished the event with a leap of 23-00.75 and was on the Rams 4x100 Relay team that set a 2A record.

Stafford was head and shoulders ahead of everybody else in the sprints as he set the 2A and overall record in the 200 in the prelims of 21.16 and that overall mark was broken the next day by Chance Morris of Sheridan. He did set the 2A and overall record in the 100 in 10.31 and ran 10.58 in the finals. Stafford had the top time in the state in that event heading into the State Championships so his performances weren't that much of a surprise. Stafford is a solid all-around athlete who was an All-State football player for BH. He was seeking to improve on his prelim time in the 100 with four of his teammates in tow.
