Raynor Ranum of Campbell County came into the 4A State Track Meet as the overwhelming favorite in the shot put and the discus. He had the overall state record in his sights in the shot put and threw 63 feet, 2 and a half inches to win the event by 13 feet. That was an impressive throw to say the least, but it wasn't enough to beat the record held by Cameron Burkett of Kelly Walsh at 65-10.25. Ranum also won the 4A shot put championship in his junior year at 58-8.75

Ranum also won the 2025 4A title in the discus with a toss of 161-11, which was 12 feet better than the second-place finisher. A year ago, he took 3rd in this event at the Outdoor State Meet at 157 even. Ranum is the two-time Indoor State Champion in the shot, throwing 58.5.25 as a senior and 54-11.50 as a junior.

He's also an All-State defensive lineman in football and recorded 7 sacks for the Camels in his senior year. We had a chance to talk with Ranum following his effort in the 4A shot put, and he gave it all he had.
