Lander Wrestler Hunter Velarde Signs with Colby Community College

Lander's Hunter Velarde had 2 very productive seasons on the mat for the Tigers and he will take his wrestling skills to Colby Community College in Kansas. In 2024, Velarde took 2nd place at the 3A State Tournament at 150 pounds and finished the season 37-10. He also finished 2nd at State in 2023 in the 3A 138-pound bracket and rang up a solid record of 33-13. In his sophomore season, Velarde qualified for the 3A State Tournament and went 2-2, en route to a 14-17 season. He rang up over 100 wins in his career with Lander and that's impressive.

Velarde played football for the Tigers and was a 3A All-Conference selection from the linebacker spot. In the 2023 season. he had 55 tackles, 33 solo with a fumble recovery and 1 interception.

Colby Community College is a junior college institution that competes in the Kansas Jayhawk Conference
