The Wyoming American Legion Baseball Class ‘A’ 2022 State Tournament is in Cody on July 25-29.

This is an eight-team, modified, double-elimination bracket. The Cody Cubs are the defending Class ‘A’ State Champions. The Cubs have won six of the last eight state titles.

Here’s a look at the match-ups for the ‘A’ State Tournament. All games will be at Milward L. Simpson Stadium.

Monday, July 25:

Final Score: Game 1: (W2) Powell Pioneers 4 (E3) Cheyenne Hawks 1 - Johnson strikes out 10 over 5.1 IP & allowed 1 hit. Queen with 1 hit & 2 RBIs. Schwahn added 2 hits & 1 RBI.

Final Score: Game 3: (E1) Casper Drillers 5 (W4) Green River Knights 4 - Casper overcame an early 3-0 deficit. They took the lead with 4 in the 5th, but GR tied it in the 6th. Pexton had the GW RBI single in the bottom of the 7th for Casper. The Drillers overcame 8 errors and allowed only 1 hit.

Final Score: Game 2: (E2) Sheridan Jets 10 (W3) Lovell Mustangs 4 - Jets scored 6 runs in the 1st two innings and never trailed. Dyson had 2 hits & 2 RBIs. Riley added 3 hits for Sheridan.

Final Score: Game 4: (W1) Cody Cubs 7 (E4) Torrington Tigers 4 - Cubs jumped out 5-0 through 4 innings. Torrington rallied and cut it to 5-4 with 4 runs in the 6th. Cody iced with 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th. J. Schroeder had 2 hits (HR) & 2 RBIs for the Cubs. Jarrett & Reinker added 1 hit & 2 RBIs apiece. Short had 2 hits (2B) & 1 RBI for Torrington.

Tuesday, July 26:

Final Score: Game 5: Cheyenne Hawks 15 Green River Knights 1 - Green River is eliminated - Cheyenne scored 8 in the 2nd inning to break it open. They had 16 total hits. Pearson finished with 2 hits (HR) & 5 RBIs. Romine added 3 hits & 3 RBIs.

Final Score: Game 6: Lovell Mustangs 13 Torrington Tigers 1 - Torrington is eliminated - Lovell scored 6 runs in the 1st and never trailed. They added 3 in the 2nd and 4 in the 4th inning. Christiansen had 3 hits & 2 RBIs for the Mustangs. 3 more Lovell players had 2 RBIs apiece.

Final Score: Game 7: Casper Drillers 9 Powell Pioneers 7 - In a 3-3 game, Powell scored 4 in the 6th for a 7-3 lead. Casper rallied with 6 runs in the top of the 7th and blanked the Pioneers in the bottom of the frame for the comeback. Gifford had the go-ahead 2-run single for the Drillers. He had 2 hits & 2 RBIs. Casper had 5 singles and 3 walks in the 7th. Stenerson finished with 2 hits & 3 RBIs for Powell.

Final Score: Game 8: Cody Cubs 9 Sheridan Jets 1 - Cody scored 4 runs in the 1st and never looked back. They added 2 in the 3rd & 3 in the 5th. Jarrett with 2 hits & 2 RBIs, while Carlson added 1 hit & 2 RBIs. J. Schroeder allowed 1 run on 3 hits with 10 Ks.

Wednesday, July 27:

Final Score: Game 9: Powell Pioneers 11 Lovell Mustangs 7 - Lovell is eliminated - Powell led 6-1 early. Lovell tied it at 6-6 in the 5th. Pioneers scored 5 runs in the 6th to pull away. Wantulok had 3 hits & 2 RBIs for Powell. Queen added 2 hits & 3 RBIs.

Final Score: Game 10: Sheridan Jets 6 Cheyenne Hawks 2 - Cheyenne is eliminated - The Jets took an early lead with 2 runs in both the 2nd and 3rd innings. After Cheyenne trimmed it to 4-2, a pair of runs in the 6th gave the Jets insurance. Ormseth had 2 hits & 2 RBIs. Manning allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in a complete game victory on the mound. He had 5 Ks and 0 walks.

Final Score: Game 11: Cody Cubs 13 Casper Drillers 8 - Cubs win puts them into the title game. They took the lead with a 4-run 2nd inning and added 5 more runs over the next two frames. It was 9-2 thru the 4th inning. Casper cut it to 9-4, but both teams scored 2 times in both the 6th & 7th innings. Thomasson went 5 inns. for the win on the mound. He added 3 hits & 2 RBIs at the plate. Cody had 6 of their 14 hits go for extra bases. Phillips & J. Schroeder hit home runs. Stokes led Casper with 2 hits. Three Drillers had 1 hit & 2 RBIs each.

Thursday, July 28:

Pairings for these two games will not match previous opponents against each other unless absolutely necessary. Since Cody has played Sheridan and Casper, the only team they haven't played is Powell, so that determines the matchups.

Final Score: Game 12: Casper Drillers 9 Sheridan Jets 2 - Sheridan is eliminated - The Drillers scored 3 in the top of the 1st for an early lead they didn't relinquish. A 5-run 5th broke it open. Gifford & Pexton had 2 hits & 2 RBIs each. Smith went the distance for the win on the mound. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits with 4Ks and 1 walk.

Final Score: Game 13: Cody Cubs 16 Powell Pioneers 3 - Powell is eliminated - Cody's win clinched Casper's spot at the NWCART. The Cubs scored 4 runs in the 1st, 3 in the 2nd, 7 runs in the 3rd, and 2 in the 4th. Phillips had 3 doubles & 4 RBIs. T. Schroeder added 3 hits (3B) & 3 RBIs. Reinker allowed 3 runs on 6 hits over 5 innings pitched. Stenerson led Powell with 1 hit & 2 RBIs, while Johnson contributed 2 hits & 2 runs scored.

(Note: If 3 teams remain with one loss after Game 13, the winner of Game 11 will automatically be drawn into Game 14)

Friday, July 29:

Final Score: Game 14: State Championship Game: Cody Cubs 10 Casper Drillers 1 - The Cubs win their 7th Single-A State Title in the last 9 seasons. It was 3-1 Cubs when Cody scored 6 runs in the top of the 5th inning to break the game open. Carlson went 3-4 with a double and 4 RBIs. Jackson Schroeder added two hits, including 1 HR, and 2 RBIs. Trey Schroeder tossed a complete game on the mound for the win. He allowed 1 run on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts and 2 walks. McClintock had 2 hits, and Pexton had the only RBI for the Drillers. Both teams head to next week's regional tournament.

The stage is set to see who advances to this year’s Northwest Class ‘A’ Regional Tournament (NWCART) in Vernal, UT. Wyoming has two berths in the 2022 NWCART, so the state champion and runner-up with head to the tournament. It is Aug. 5-9, 2022.
