A game that carries some major playoff implications for both teams in the 2A West between Cokeville and No. 5 Mountain View is our WyoPreps Small School Game of the Week on Friday.

This game was chosen by fans by a narrow margin in the voting earlier this week. How close was it? The margin was seven votes.

Cokeville has an overall record of 3-1, and the Panthers are 2-1 in the 2A West Conference. They enter this game off a 35-12 victory over Kemmerer last week. In that game, Jack Dayton ran wild for Cokeville. He rushed for 256 yards and three TDs.

Mountain View is also 3-1 this year. The Buffalos are 1-1 in league games, and they come off a 28-10 loss to rival Lyman at home last week.

This game features the top two rushers in Class 2A. Dayton leads the division at 141.2 yards per game, while Mountain View’s Jayce Schultz is second at 135.8 yards per game. A key in this one will be who can slow down the other’s rushing attack. The Panthers average 280 yards per game on the ground. The Buffalos are at 192 yards per game rushing.

WyoPreps chatted with Cokeville head coach Marty Linford and Mountain View’s Brent Walk before this game. Coach Linford discussed how his team has bounced back from a tough loss at top-ranked Lovell a few weeks ago, how he and his staff are looking for continued improvement in the Panthers’ play, the benefits of a veteran line, and preparing for Mountain View. Coach Walk reflected on the loss to Lyman, how the team has reacted in practice coming off that defeat, what needs to happen differently and preparing for an always tough Cokeville squad.

Thanks to records from wyoming-football.com, Cokeville leads the series against Mountain View, 37-to-23. There has been one tie. This will be the 62nd meeting between the two schools in football. The first game in the series was in 1955. The two have split the last six in the series.

The kick-off is at 4 p.m. from Clarence Lammers Stadium in Mountain View.
