WyoPreps Playoff Game of the Week: Evanston at #4 Riverton [VIDEO]
A rematch of a 7-point regular season game is one of our first-round playoff Game of the Week matchups. It’s Evanston at Riverton.
Both teams are 4-5 on the season. Evanston went 2-3 in conference action, while Riverton was 4-1. The Wolverines earned the No. 1 seed in the 3A East Conference thanks to an upset of Buffalo a few weeks ago and a point differential tiebreaker.
In Week 2 of the 2023 season, the Red Devils defeated the Wolverines, 34-27, in Evanston. The Red Devils ran for 259 yards as a team. Riverton threw for 301 yards and 3 TDs.
One key matchup in the game will be Riverton’s No. 2 passing offense against Evanston’s No. 12 pass defense.
The two schools have played twice in the postseason. The first time was in a three-team tiebreaker play-in game at Rock Springs. The Red Devils posted a 6-3 win in one-half of a playoff game. The only other meeting was in a Class 5A consolation game. The Wolverines prevailed 38-12, in Riverton.
WyoPreps spoke with both head coaches about the rematch in the playoffs. Both Coach Moore and Coach Lenhardt discussed how their team is playing going into the playoffs, thinking back to the first game earlier this year, what they see from each other right now, and some keys for their team to have success.
The teams have met 14 times. It’s tied at 7-7. The first football game between the two schools was in 1987. The series’ history is courtesy of wyoming-football.com.
