The Green River Wolves girls’ basketball program looks to be a factor in Class 4A this season thanks to a pair of senior leaders, Madelyn Heiser and Ashelynn Birch.

In our latest WyoPreps Spotlight, we focus on a pair of Green River seniors that have been playing basketball together for years.

Heiser was a 4A All-State honoree after a junior season in which she averaged team-highs of 11.9 points, 4.1 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Birch was a 4A West All-Conference pick. She averaged 10.7 points and a team-high and Class 4A-high 11.7 rebounds per game last season.

Both players are off to a good start this season. Heiser is at 10.8 points, 6.4 assists, and 2.6 steals per game. Birch is averaging 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. They have Green River at 8-3 on the season and ranked fifth in the most recent WyoPreps.com Coaches and Media Girls Basketball Poll.

In the video above, WyoPreps’ David Settle caught up with the senior duo a few weeks back to talk about playing with each other, Birch’s double-doubles, playing for Coach Carroll, their expectations for this season, the competition around Class 4A, plus how they handle being top players on opposing team’s scouting report, and more.

The Wolves reached the state tournament for the first time in three years last year and only the second time in the last 10 seasons. Green River went home with the consolation trophy. Heiser and Birch have higher aspirations for 2020.
