WyoPreps Spotlight: Sheridan Senior Colson Coon [VIDEO]
Twice in the last four months, Sheridan High School senior Colson Coon made state history. For him, it was just another day or days, in this case.
WyoPreps shines a spotlight on this amazing senior, who became the state’s first-ever two-time Gatorade Football Player of the Year last month.
In a one-on-one video interview, WyoPreps’ David Settle visited with Colson about the honor, his state single-game state rushing record, his senior season of football, a big choice to sign with the Bobcats, and more. All of that is in the video at the top of this story.
Coon led the Sheridan Broncs to a second consecutive Class 4A state championship last fall. He did so by rushing for 2,195 yards and 34 touchdowns. He added two receiving TDs and two defensive touchdowns. It helped Sheridan to a 12-0 record and the school’s 29th state championship on the football field.
The senior was recognized as a unanimous choice for the 4A Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight year. He also was selected all-state as a linebacker.
In the semifinal win versus Cheyenne Central, Coon ran for a single-game state record of 517 yards. In the three playoff victories, he amassed 986 yards rushing and 13 TDs. Coon also scored every point for his team in the title game win over Cheyenne East.
His 300 points scored in the 2022 season and 540 for his career are unofficial state records for 11-man football.
Coon also wrestles at 182 pounds for the Sheridan High wrestling team. Unofficially, he’s lost only five matches in his senior season. WyoWrestling.com has him ranked No. 2 at 182 pounds. They have Sheridan ranked No. 1 in the team rankings.
Coon plays soccer for the Broncs in the spring high school sports season. He led Sheridan to a runner-up finish in the 2022 season. The Broncs were 15-5 last season. Coon led the squad with 23 goals and added six assists.
The senior will attend Montana State University in Bozeman starting this fall.
