2021 State Wrestling 120 LB. Championship Matches [VIDEO]

We had a repeat state champion in the 2A 120-pound group as junior Connor Vickrey defeated Cardon Mickelson 14-6 to earn the first-place medal. Vickrey had a plan and stuck to it and completed a solid season going 30-8. Mickelson who is a senior finished the year 18-7. Also in 2A, freshman Kaleb Brothwell from Lingle/Southeast took 3rd with a tough 3-2 win over freshman Pace Garrett of Wright. Brothwell lost just one match this season and that was in the semi-final round so he finished 33-1. Garrett posted a record of 33-6. Micah Peterson of Cokeville, yet another freshman placed 5th with a win over freshman David West of Lusk.

In 3A. a couple of Star Valley guys went at it for the title with Waylon Nelson beat Raf Greene 5-1. Nelson was 26-2 this past season and was fairly systematic in his approach and this shows you what kind of depth the Brave program has. They won the 3A team title for the 6th year in a row. Greene by the way capped the year with a record of 14-2. Defending 4A 106-pound state champion, Thomas Dalton of Green River took 3rd with a 6-5 win over Worland's Ross Goncalves. Dalton was 32-4 this year as a sophomore while Goncalves was 31-9 and he was a sophomore too. Powell's Logan Werner took 5th with a pin over Christian Johnson of Douglas.

Finally in 4A at 120 pounds, Landon Trujillo took the next step forward with a 7-6 win over Cole Wirtz of Kelly Walsh. This match could have gone either way but Trujillo pulled it out in the 3rd period. A year ago, he finished 2nd at 113 pounds and posted a record this season of 33-10. Wirtz concludes his prep career at 27-9. Freshman Landon Wood of Sheridan took 3rd with a 9-4 victory over Alex Draper of Thunder Basin. Wood was 24-8 and Draper 32-10. The 5th place finisher was Kael Johnson of Natrona who bested Jack Wilson of Kelly Walsh by fall.
